Latest Update
February 9, 2026 — The Board voted to move forward with two models for deeper analysis: Intermediate Model (Option 2) and a 5–8 Model. A final decision on redesign/closures is still expected later (district has referenced April as the target).
- Intermediate Model: the Board’s motion was to advance Option 2 (not both options). During discussion, members stated the intent was to keep the scope focused for deeper study.
- 5–8 Model: the Board also advanced the 5–8 concept for further feasibility work.
- Johnson STEAM Academy: the Board added direction that the district shall “maintain Johnson STEAM Academy as an elementary school” in models moving forward.
- As deeper analysis continues, we are closely following details related to transportation, transitions, staffing, building readiness, and student supports.
From the February 9 Meeting (Highlights)
On focusing the analysis to Option 2:
- Board members discussed limiting the study to a single intermediate option to avoid an unworkable number of variations and to reduce uncertainty.
- During discussion, one member stated they were “fine with option two” and preferred option one not remain on the table due to transportation and logistics concerns.
On Johnson STEAM Academy:
- Members emphasized the importance of public clarity and directed that Johnson STEAM Academy be maintained as an elementary school as the district continues its redesign analysis.
- The stated purpose was to ensure the recommendation does not “come back differently” after outside analysis.
On what happens next:
- The Board signaled that deeper feasibility work should come back with clearer criteria, operational plans, and transportation considerations.
- This meeting narrowed options for study — it did not finalize school closures.
