Pierce Elementary is staying open.
A community effort. A shared voice. A successful outcome.
After months of uncertainty, advocacy, and community engagement, we are grateful to share that Pierce Elementary will remain open.
This outcome reflects the voices of families, staff, and community members who showed up, spoke up, and shared what Pierce means to them.
Throughout this process, one thing became clear: Pierce is more than a building. It is a community.
From strong family involvement to meaningful connections with Kennedy High School and neighborhood partners, Pierce represents stability, continuity, and belonging for students and families.
We also want to acknowledge the Cedar Rapids Community School District and Board of Education for engaging the community and considering feedback during a complex decision-making process.
What Happens Next
Parents for Pierce has achieved its mission and will begin winding down as an advocacy group.
The work of supporting Pierce now continues in quieter, everyday ways: through strong enrollment, family involvement, PTA participation, school events, and continued pride in what makes Pierce special.
We encourage families to stay engaged and continue helping Pierce thrive in the years ahead.
Thank You
